Madrid, Spain
10 July 05
I got up early this morning in Madrid and
attended mass at the cathedral adjacent to the
Palace, Inglesia San Maria.  It was a lengthy walk
but the weather was good and there was a nice
breeze.  No cameras allowed in the church but I
did get to hear a huge organ built in the 1600s
and restored several times in the 1900s.  Typical
Catholic Mass, in Latin of course.  I was awed by
the size and splendor of the organ.  It was similar
in style to the organs in Zaragoza.  The service
lasted just under an hour.

I went back to the hotel and woke up Adam.
Then we packed to leave the hotel.  We checked
out at 11am and took the metro to the train
station.  A couple of wrong turns and we found
ourselves at the bus terminal.  All three stations:
the metro, the bus and the train stations are
intertwined by tunnels and stairs underground.
It's very confusing if you can’t speak the
language.  Nevertheless, Adam got us back to
the real train station and we grabbed some
lunch.  A cheese and bacon sandwich on a flat
bun.  Not bad.   I went outside and found an
Internet cafe.  We will hang out around here
near the station for a while. There is a huge park
right here and some museums.  We may go to
the botanical gardens and look around until our
train departs for Paris at 7 pm.  We will spend
the night on the train and wake up in Paris at
around 9 am tomorrow.
